First EOSC Beyond Policy Brief Charts Project’s Contribution to EOSC Goals

The EOSC Beyond project has published its Deliverable D1.3, the "EOSC Policy Brief," now available on Zenodo. This type of document provides a crucial framework for all EU-funded projects contributing to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), enabling them to report on their progress and provide structured input for future policy analysis and development by the European Commission.
The policy brief details how EOSC Beyond's activities and outputs directly support and advance the core objectives of the EOSC Partnership, as outlined in the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA). It serves as a formal mechanism for projects to demonstrate their alignment with the evolving EOSC policy landscape.
Alignment with EOSC Strategic Goals and Key Contributions
The brief maps EOSC Beyond's work against the EOSC SRIA's General and Operational Objectives, demonstrating concrete contributions to making open science the ‘new normal’ and building a federated infrastructure under community governance.
The document also highlights key project outputs that are already influencing the EOSC ecosystem, including:
- The influential "EOSC Federation: Architecture and Federating Capabilities" concept paper.
- The launch of the EOSC Core Innovation Sandbox for testing and integration.
- Development of new dissemination resources for the community.
A Roadmap for Collective Action
The policy brief outlines EOSC Beyond's active synergies with key stakeholders, including the EOSC Association, other EOSC-related projects (like FAIRCORE4EOSC and OSCARS), and initiatives such as EU Data Spaces and SIMPL through memoranda of understanding and technical collaboration.
This document provides an example of how Horizon Europe projects can articulate their impact on the EOSC policy framework. By detailing challenges, lessons learned, and policy recommendations (such as the need for shared frameworks on data protection and interoperability). EOSC Beyond helps pave the way for a more cohesive, sustainable, and powerful European Open Science ecosystem.
